BENEFITS

Breastfeeding and infant support products, also known as “Nursing Pillows” or “Infant Pillows,” are critical tools for parents and caregivers to help infants develop healthy feeding habits.

Breastfeeding and infant support products provide ergonomic support for caregivers while nursing or bottle feeding. Many have cited nursing pillows as immensely helpful throughout the bonding process, including for moms holding their babies while recovering from a C-section, reducing pressure on the mother’s incision site.

Certain breastfeeding and infant support products offer added benefits, providing caregivers indispensable help in promoting milestone development, like tummy time and sitting.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Mayo Clinic, and other prominent healthcare organizations recommend “tummy time” for a variety of reasons, including muscle and motor skill development. Tummy time can also prevent the back of baby’s head from developing flat spots (positional plagiocephaly).

Pediatric physical therapists and occupational therapists often find that these breastfeeding and infant support products are useful tools in helping infants achieve important developmental milestones. Products that offer combined functionality can be attractive options for consumers, including for those with limited resources or space. Regardless of the chosen product, parents and caregivers should always ensure that products are used as instructed and for supervised awake time only.
